Biographical Information[edit]

Elián Miranda has played in the minors and for the Nicaraguan national team.

Miranda was not signed until he was almost 21 years old, late for an international free agent; the scout was Chris Carminucci of the Arizona Diamondbacks. [1] The 2020 minor league season was wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic. He split the summer of '21 between the Visalia Rawhide (.251/.345/.473, 41 RBI in 56 G) and Hillsboro Hops (.175/.340/.225 in 10 G).

With Nicaragua for the 2021 U-23 Baseball World Cup, he hit .300/.417/.750 with 7 runs, 8 RBI and 3 homers (two against the Dominicans) in eight games. He tied for 7th in the event in runs, tied for 3rd in RBI (with Marek Chlup, Gustavo Campero and Luis Montealto) and tied for the most dingers. He did not make the All-Star team as Erasmo Caballero was picked at DH and Robert Perez Jr. at 1B. [2]

Back with Hillsboro in '22, he again struggled (.130/.176/.261 in 24 G) and was let go. Picked up by the Lake Erie Crushers, he was 0 for 15 with two times plunked. He starred for Nicaragua in the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games Central American Qualifier. He went deep of Honduran national team hurler David Garcia and Guatemala's Carlos Polanco. He hit .278/.350/.722 with five runs and eight RBI in four games as Nicaragua won a spot in the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games, handling 27 chances error-free at first. He tied Elmer Reyes and Willie Vasquez for 7th in runs, tied Isaac Benard and Sean Marte for the most doubles (2), led in homers (all other players in the event combined for four), tied MVP Lombardo Padilla for second in RBI (3 shy of Benard), tied Padilla for the most total bases and led in slugging (.179 ahead of Padilla). He was named the All-Star first baseman. [3]

He then made Nicaragua's roster for the 2023 World Baseball Classic. [4] He had half of Nicaragua's four RBI in the event, with a solo homer of defending WBC MVP Marcus Stroman and a pinch-hit single off César Valdéz to score Steven Leytón. He was otherwise 0-for-9 with a walk. [5]
