Biographical Information[edit]
Luis Montealto has played for the Nicaraguan national team.
He debuted in 2015 with Frente Sur, hitting .227/.301/.360. [1] His batting line was .252/.316/.332 then he surged in 2017 (still a teenager) to .316/.396/.519 with a league-best nine triples. He hit .314/.364/.457 in '18.
The Frente Sur outfielder produced at a .263/.341/.478 rate in 2019, .326/.429/.500 in 2020 and .347/.402/.614 with 22 homers and 99 RBI in 2021. He led the league in RBI and was two homers behind leader Ramón Flores. In the 2021 U-23 Baseball World Cup, he hit .269/.296/.462 with eight RBI in eight games. He had nine putouts, no errors and one assist in the outfield. He tied Gustavo Campero, Marek Chlup and Elian Miranda for 3rd in RBI in the event. [2]
In the 2022 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, he started in left for Nicaragua. In the opener against Pakistan, he batted 5th and struck out against Muhammad Zohaib his first time up. He was 1-for-12 in the event with five strikeouts but his hit came at a crucial time. Up 2-1 against Brazil in the finale, he doubled off Oscar Nakaoshi in the 7th and was driven in by Elmer Reyes for an insurance run. Nicaragua won a spot in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, their first time in a World Baseball Classic. [3]
