Division III College World Series Regionals
From 1976 to 1981 schools competed in one of four Regional Tournaments to participate in the Division III College World Series. The field consisted of 22 teams in 1976-1977 and 24 teams in 1978-1981.
From 1982 to 1990 the format was expanded to 6 Regional Tournaments. The field consisted of 26 teams.
From 1991 to 2018 the format was expanded to 8 Regional Tournaments. The field had 32 teams from 1991 to 1997, 40 teams from 1998-1999, 42 teams from 2000-2005, 53 teams in 2006-2007, 54 teams from 2008-2009, 55 teams from 2010-2011, 56 teams from 2012-2017, and 58 teams in 2018.
In 2019 the format was changed to include Super Regionals. The brackets were broken into 16 three-team and four-team brackets with the winners advancing to one of 8 Super Regionals. the format reverted to the 8 Regional format for 2021, but the Super Regionals returned in 2022. The field was 58 teams in 2019-2021 and 60 teams since 2022.
