Team History[edit]

The Azucareros del Este (Sugar Makers of the East) joined the Dominican League in 1983 as an expansion team. They won their only Dominican League title in 1994-1995. League MVPs from the club were Bob Brower and Andujar Cedeno. They finished second (4-2) in the 1995 Caribbean Series under manager Art Howe with an impressive staff of Pedro Martinez, Jose Rijo and Pedro Astacio.

The Azucareros sat out for two seasons (1998/99 & 1999/00) as their ballpark suffered damage due to Hurricane Georges. In 2005 they were renamed the Toros del Este.
