Biographical Information

Luis Silverio was a member of the Kansas City Royals organization from 1974 to 2010 in various capacities from the field to the front office. He then became a coach for the Pittsburgh Pirates. His brother Pedro Silverio has been a scout and his son-in-law is former Rookie of the Year Angel Berroa.

Silverio was signed by the Royals as a non-drafted free agent in November, 1973 and played in the minors from 1974 to 1982, with a cup of coffee with the big league club in 1978. He was named to the 1975 Gulf Coast League all-star team along with teammate Clint Hurdle.

Silverio was a coach for the Fort Myers Royals (1983), Charleston Royals (1984), and GCL Royals (1985). He managed from 1986 to 1989 with GCL Royals and the Baseball City Royals.

From 1990 to 2002, Silverio served as the GM of the Royals' Dominican Summer League team, the DSL Royals, was also the Latin American Coordinator from 1993 to 1999. He was the Royals' Coordinator of Dominican Republic Operations in 2000-2001, and was the minor league outfield instructor in 2000-2001.

Starting in 2003, Silverio became a member of the Royals' big league coaching staff. He was the first base coach in 2003 and 2004, the third base coach in 2005 and 2006, the first base coach again in 2007, and third base coach in 2008. Silverio became the Royals' newly-created Special Assistant to Player Development in 2009, mainly to work with young Latin American players. In 2011, he got to work for another organization for the first time as his former teammate Clint Hurdle, newly-appointed manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates, selected him to be his first base coach in the Steel City.

Silverio returned to the Dominican as a coach for the DSL Diamondbacks 2 in 2021.
