From BR Bullpen

My information on David Green in the 1972 Amateur World Series comes from A History of Cuban Baseball (pg. 262) - "[F]ans clamored for a showcase throwing exhibition during the 1972 amateur world championships (World Cup XX) between Nicaraguan hotshot David Green, [Armando] Capiro with the gold medal-winning Cubans, and the celebrated [Roberto] Clemente, who was also in Nicaragua at the time to manage Puerto Rico's entry." So I may have assumed wrongly that Green played for Nicaragua rather than merely being along for the ride. I'll remove it.

BTW, does the "VI" stand for Virgin Islands? I'd like to do a bio of Cos Govern some day. Do you have any info on him? - --Mischa 21:30, 23 April 2009 (EDT)

Given the number of errors in A History of Cuban Baseball, I should have been more thorough. Green was only 12 years old in 1972. Duh. - --Mischa 21:36, 23 April 2009 (EDT)

Mischa, there's been a good deal of speculation as to what David Green's true age is. My current thinking is that he was born before 1960 but still wasn't quite old enough to play in the 1972 Amateur World Series. The account of his arm fits, though. I'll look into this further.

As for Govern, your hunch is correct. Check out this page: http://home.roadrunner.com/~vibaseball/govern.html -- Do you know how to get a hold of the guy who does the VI Baseball website? I wanted to find out if the Govern pic was public domain. I assume so given the age. - --Mischa 20:42, 4 May 2009 (EDT) -- Thanks for the Govern bio. I added some links and categories and will try to do some more touch-up work later. - --Mischa 12:44, 4 May 2009 (EDT)

-- I've noticed you have a lot of sources on Nicaragua. Can you add to my snippet on Davis Hodgson? - --Mischa 21:37, 5 August 2009 (EDT) -- I haven't heard of Hodgson, but I'll look into it. --VIBaseball --

I'm trying to find out if Mariners Central America scout Luis Molina is the same guy as Luis Molina who played in the minors in 1990s, hailing from Nicaragua. Can you help research this one? - --Mischa 08:58, 2 December 2009 (EST)

I've started bios of some of the Virgin Islanders in the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games - see 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games (Rosters). Anything you can add would be great. - --Mischa 18:44, 18 July 2010 (EDT)

There's a standard format for player pages. It would be simpler if you would follow it for the pages you create. You can simply copy an existing page and enter the correct information for the new players you add. --Philippe 14:11, 4 June 2012 (EDT)

I added a couple dozen Nicaraguan players, primarily 1984 or 1996 Olympic performers, but am missing some demographic info. Check [[::Category:Nicaraguan National Team Players]] if there are any blanks you can fill in.

Any idea of which Nicaragua and Virgin Islands players belong on the List of first players to sign with a MLB team from different countries - --Mischa (talk) 15:09, 6 December 2013 (EST)

Added the USVI entry, which I knew off the top of my head. Fixed the entry for Australia. Will look into Nicaragua...it's from sometime in the '60s, maybe the '50s.

Bert Bradford played in 1952, but with an independent minor league team, so he probably doesn't meet our criteria. - --Mischa (talk) 09:39, 18 December 2013 (EST)

Eduardo Green also played a bit for the Havana Cubans in 1953. Although bb-ref shows that team as unaffiliated, there were still ties to the Senators (Clark Griffith part-owner, Joe Cambria business manager). I tend to think that Green -- who apparently was invited to the Brooklyn Dodgers camp in 1951 -- was on a minor-league contract. I think it's most likely Duncan Campbell in 1958. Willie Hooker also played minor-leahue ball in '58.

I have created a page for the other Dave May, as requested. --Philippe (talk) 03:59, 8 January 2014 (EST)

Do you know how/if Laupati Solaita, John Solaita, Leopeni Solaita, Louis Solaita and Tolia Solaita are related to Tony Solaita, Ben Solaita, Duke Solaita and Charles Solaita? It appears that Leopeni is Ben's son or grandson perhaps? I am emailing the American Samoa baseball association also to see if they can help - --Mischa (talk) 10:13, 13 February 2014 (EST)

I've been adding on some more Bahamas national team players. Is Peter Bethel any relation to Hugh Bethel or Roy Bethel? - --Mischa (talk) 12:13, 30 April 2015 (EDT)

Is Adelbert Hendricks (1974 Virgin Islands team) related to Ellie Hendricks? - --Mischa (talk) 16:13, 16 June 2016 (EDT)
