Biographical Information[edit]

Roy Bethel had one of the longer pro careers among Bahamian minor-leaguers. He played nine seasons in the Houston Astros organization from 1964 through 1972. Of his 658 total games, 553 were at the class A level, but he did play 94 games in Double-A over parts of four seasons. Bethel hit 40 homers and posted a .238 batting average.

The interesting thing about this player was that he came up as an outfielder but took occasional turns on the mound from 1966 through 1968. Then, in 1969, the Astros decided to convert him to pitching full-time. His record was 29-36, with a 4.35 ERA.
