Biographical Information[edit]

Hugh "Meatman" Bethel (who got his nickname because he worked in a family butcher shop) played 57 games in the Chicago White Sox chain in 1965 and 1966. Short and stocky, he was compared by Bahamian baseball writer Fred Sturrup to Kirby Puckett. Bethel hit .296 with two homers in 40 games in the Florida Rookie League, but got into just 17 the following year at Class A, despite hitting .277.
