The University of California, San Diego began playing in 1969. The Tritons primarily competed in NCAA Division III as an independent, before joining NCAA Division II and the CCAA for the 2001 season, and the moving to Division I in 2021.
The Tritons have appeared in 7 Division II and Division III College World Series. Two of those, in 1987 and 1994 were in Division III and 5 in Division II: 2009, 2010, 2017, 2018, & 2019.
