The Oakland Athletics took Godwin in the 7th round of the 1982 amateur draft. He debuted as a pro with the '82 Medford A's, going 6-4 with a 4.42 ERA; he fanned 92 but walked 50 in 97 2/3 IP. He led the Northwest League with 64 runs allowed but was also third in strikeouts.
In 1983, Godwin was 3-2 with a 2.27 ERA for the Madison Muskies, working primarily out of the bullpen. Had he qualified, he would have been second in the Midwest League in ERA behind Barry Bass. In 1985, Glenn pitched in Hoofdklasse for HCAW. He later became a scout with the Minnesota Twins, signing Petru Balan, Vadim Balan, Donny Breek, Jan Řeháček, Rowan Ebersohn, Callan Pearce, Niklas Rimmel and Yancarlo Franco. He coached for the Czech national team in the 2003 European Championship. In the 2007 European Championship and 2008 Final Olympic Qualifier, he coached for the Spanish national team.
