Biographical Information[edit]

Seung-min Koo pitched in the Korea Baseball Organization.

Koo was drafted by the Lotte Giants in the 6th round of the 2013 KBO draft, and he only pitched one game with the big club in his first 2 seasons. His ERA was 10.24 in 11 games in 2015, and he missed the next two seasons due to military service. Koo broke out in 2018, and he notched 14 holds with a 7-4 record and a 3.67 ERA in 64 appearances. He was 10th in appearances (tied with Yun-dong Kim and Bo-geun Lee) and 9th in holds (tied with Hae-soo Jin and Sang-soo Kim). Koo struggled in 2019, and his ERA was 6.25 in 41 games with 2 saves and 6 holds.

The Seoul native bounced back in 2020, and his ERA was 3.58 with 20 holds in 57 games. He was 5th in holds, tied with Woo-young Jung. Koo then got 20 holds with a 4.33 ERA in 68 relief outings in 2021, and he was the first Giants pitcher to get 20 holds in back-to-back seasons. Koo ranked 3rd in games pitched (between Hyun-sik Jang and Tae-hoon Kim) and 6th in holds (tied with Jun-yong Choi). He improved to 26 holds with a 2.90 ERA in 73 games in 2022, and he broke Hyoun-taek Oh's single-season holds record for the Giants. Koo was only the 4th pitcher to collect 20 holds in 3 consecutive seasons, and he was 5th in holds (between Beom-su Kim and Cheol-won Jeong) and 4th in appearances (between Jun-young Lee and Young-kyu Kim).

Koo passed Young-sik Kang and became the career holds leader for the Giants on May 23, 2023, and he reached 100 career holds on July 26. He completed a combined no-hitter with Aaron Wilkerson and against Won-jung Kim on August 6 against the SSG Landers, and he ended up getting 22 holds with a 3.96 ERA in 67 games. Koo was 10th in appearances (tied with Jae-woong Kim, Young-chan You, Sang-soo Kim and Cheol-won Jeong) and 5th in holds (tied with Jin-wook Ryu). He collected 13 holds with a 4.84 ERA in 66 relief outings in 2024.
