Hyun-sik Jang has pitched in the Korea Baseball Organization and for the South Korean national team.
Jang represented South Korea in the 2012 World Junior Championship, going 1-0 with a 0.77 ERA, beating Australia's Lewis Thorpe. He was selected by the NC Dinos in the first round of the 2013 KBO draft. He surrendered 2 runs in 3 innings in his first season, then he missed the next two seasons due to military service. Jang only pitched two games with the big club after returning in 2015, and he had a 4.48 ERA in 37 appearances in 2016. He joined the rotation in 2017, and he was 9-9 with a 5.29 ERA. He then represented Korea in the 2017 Asia Professional Baseball Championship, and he pitched 5 innings with only an unearned run against Japan. South Korea still lost to Japan with a 7-0 score in the Gold Medal Game. He slumped to a 7.43 ERA in 21 games in 2018, and he collected 9 holds with a 4.61 ERA in 53 games in 2019.
The Bucheon native struggled again in 2020 as his ERA was 9.31 in 9 games, then he was traded with Tae-jin Kim to the KIA Tigers for Kyeong-chan Moon and Jung-soo Park. Jang was 3-4 with a 11.20 ERA for the Tigers in '20 season, and he broke out in 2021. He became the first Tigers pitcher to reach 30 holds in a season on October 16, and he was also the first Tigers pitcher to lead the league in holds. Jang ended up having a 3.29 ERA with 34 holds in 69 games, and he was 2nd in appearances (1 behind Woo-young Jung). He then collected 19 holds with a 3.12 ERA in 54 games in 2022, and he ranked 8th on holds (between Jung-yong Yi and Jun-young Lee). He got 5 holds with a 4.06 ERA in 56 games in 2023, and he notched 16 holds with a 3.94 ERA in 75 games in 2024. He was 4th in holds in the '24 season, tied with Min-su Kim. He was also selected into the 2024 KBO All-Star Game, and he allowed a run in an inning. He pitched in all 5 games of the 2024 Korean Series, and he pitched 5 shutout innings combined with a hold in Game 5. The Tigers beat the Samsung Lions, and Jang won his first title.
