Biographical Information

Lewis Thorpe is a, Australian pitcher who made his debut with the Minnesota Twins in 2019. He was signed by the Twins in 2012, receiving a bonus of $500,000, and made his debut in organized baseball with the GCL Twins in 2013, going 4-1, 2.05 in 12 games. He had previously pitched in the Australian Baseball League, for the Melbourne Aces, in 2012 and returned there after the 2013 season, earning Rookie of the year honors. In 2014, he moved up to the Cedar Rapids Kernels of the Midwest League where he was the youngest player in the circuit and made 16 starts, going 3-2, 3.52 and logging 71 2/3 innings. However, his progress was derailed by an torn ligament in his elbow and he missed the next two seasons as he recovered from Tommy John surgery.

Back on the mound in 2017, he pitched the bulk of the year with the Fort Myers Miracle of the Florida State League, where he was 3-4. 2.69 in 16 games. He was also promoted to the Chattanooga Lookouts of the Southern League for one start, which he won in spite of giving up 4 runs in 6 innings. In total, he pitched 83 innings and struck out 91 batters. He was back at Chattanooga to start the 2018 season and was named to the World team for the 2018 Futures Game. He was roughed up however, giving up four runs on a pair of homers, to Danny Jansen and Ke'Bryan Hayes, in two-thirds of a inning.

According to his bio on mlb.com, he owns a pet kangaroo named Skippy. He also wore an eye-patch as a kid in order to correct a vision problem.
