Biographical Information[edit]

Sang-soo Kim has been a pitcher in the Korea Baseball Organization.

Kim was picked by the Samsung Lions in the second round of the 2006 amateur draft. He made his KBO debut in 2008, allowing 19 runs and 22 hits in 13 2/3 IP. He was 3-3 with a 6.00 ERA in 43 games in 2009. He was then dealt with Sung-hun Park and cash to the Nexen Heroes for Won-sam Jang in a mismatched trade where the Heroes were seeking money; a similar deal without Kim had been overturned by KBO officials the prior year. In 2010, Sang-soo had a 1-2, 6.20 record for his new club. He went 1-4 with a 6.49 ERA in 2011 and 2-1 with a 4.73 ERA in 37 games in 2012. He was 0-1 with a 5.08 ERA in 16 games in 2013.

Kim then began his military service, during which he played for the Sangmu Phoenix military team in 2014-2015. He was with the South Korean national team that won the 2015 Asian Championship. He started the opener against Taiwan and struggled (3 H, 3 BB, 2 R in 3 2/3 IP, albeit with 5 K) before Chae-heung Choi relieved and got credit for a 8-2 win as the bullpen fared well. He was sharper against defending champion Japan, striking out 8 and allowing four hits, one walk and one run (on a Toshiyuki Hayashi homer) in 5 2/3 innings before Choi again relieved. South Korea would win 2-1 on Ju-suk Ha's two-out two-run homer in the bottom of the 9th. He led South Korea's staff in strikeouts, 5 more than runner-up Jae-young Kim. Kim returned to Nexen late in the 2015 KBO season and was 0-1 with 10 hits and 8 runs (6 earned) in 5 innings.
