Biographical Information[edit]

Jae-young Kim was 1-0 with a 3.53 ERA in the 2015 Universiade; his 7 strikeouts tied for the South Korean team lead. In the 2015 Asian Championship, he started against China and allowed only one hit in five shutout innings, fanning six for the win; he was the only one of South Korea's three starters to make one start instead of two in the Championship (Sang-soo Kim and Myeong-sin Kim were the other starters). In his other game, he performed crucial relief. He replaced Young-il Jung with two on, one out and a 1-0 deficit against Japan in the top of the 8th and promptly retired both Yohei Kawato (on a K) and Takumi Harada. In the 9th, he threw a wild pitch on strike 3 to Takuya Kinoshita, retired Katsuya Kawashima on a bunt and walked Masanobu Tanaka. After bailing out of the 8th-inning jam, he needed bailing out of this 9th-inning one and Yong-chan Lee did the trick. South Korea wound up winning, 2-1.
