Biographical Information[edit]
Ronald Ramírez was a minor league pitcher.
Ramírez signed with the Chicago White Sox in July 2004, then went 0-1 with a 3.48 ERA that year for the DSL White Sox. In 2005, he fell to 0-2, 13.50 with the same club. The next year, he was 4-4 with a save and a 4.12 ERA for the VSL Orioles/White Sox. He did well in limited action for the 2007 Great Falls White Sox (0 R in 4 1/3 IP) and Bristol White Sox (1-0, 2.35 in 4 G).
Ronald next signed with the independent Alexandria Aces and was 1-2 with a 3.81 ERA in 2008. In the 2008 Americas Baseball Cup, the southpaw did very well against the Panamanian national team, fanning eight in eight innings while allowing two runs (one earned), but he was outdueled by Abraham Atencio. It was his lone appearance of the tournament.
In 2009, he was 2-7 with a 5.80 ERA for the Yuma Scorpions, giving up 97 hits and 40 walks in 71 1/3 innings. He tied for third in the Golden Baseball League in losses. He was with Colombia when they won Silver at the 2010 South American Games (now joined by an infielder also named Ronald Ramirez, born the same year and in the same city). Both Ronalds were with Colombia in the 2010 Pan American Games Qualification Tournament; this one walked 4 and fanned 3 in 2 2/3 shutout innings, allowing only one hit.
Ramirez made two appearances in the 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. Against Nicaragua, he relieved Yesid Salazar and worked 1 2/3 shutout frames (1 BB, 0 H) before Oscar Melendez finished off Colombia's lone win of the event. Against host Panama, he was not as sharp as in the 2008 Americas Baseball Cup. Replacing Karl Triana in the second with two on and no out, he allowed a two-run triple to Isaias Velasquez and a two-run homer to Carlos Lee in 2/3 of an inning as Colombia went on to lose; Dumas Garcia relieved him.
He was with Colombia when they won the 2015 South American Championship to advance to the 2015 Pan American Games. He pitched three times for Colombia in the 2015 Pan American Games (only Salazar pitched more games) but allowed two runs, two hits, a walk and a hit batsmen in 1 2/3 IP. He served up a grand slam to Anthony García when Colombia led 7-2 against Puerto Rico; they went on to drop a 8-7 decision. He started Colombia's opener in the 2017 Bolivarian Games, allowing two hits, a walk and a run in five innings versus the El Salvador national team before Juan Escorcia took over; Ramirez got the win and Colombia went on to their first Bolivarian Games Gold since 1973. He tied Escorcia for third in the tournament in Ks, behind Davis Romero and Carlos Parra.
