Biographical Information[edit]
Dumas García has pitched as high as AAA.
García was signed by Seattle Mariners scout Curtis Wallace in 2002. He was 3-2 with a 1.22 ERA and .148 opponent average for Aguirre in the 2002 Venezuelan Summer League. He was again excellent (2-1, 1.56, .137) for the same team in 2003. Despite too superb years in the VSL, he was let go.
With the independent South Georgia Waves in 2007, the righthander had a 7-4, 3.44 record. He tied Jean Granado and Travis Kane for 8th in the South Coast League in wins. The Chicago Cubs were interested at this point and signed him. In 2008, he pitched for the Daytona Cubs (3-0, 5 Sv, 2.33 in 19 G), Tennessee Smokies (2-2, 2 Sv, 2.89 in 30 G) and Iowa Cubs (4 R in 4 IP). His 52 games pitched were second in the Cubs chain, 3 behind Casey Lambert.
The Cubs traded him to the Toronto Blue Jays and he kept on pitching well in 2009 with the Dunedin Blue Jays (6-2, 2 Sv, 2.20 in 38 G) and Las Vegas 51s (4.15 ERA in 2 G). He slumped in 2010 with Dunedin (3-5, Sv, 3.58 in 30 G) and the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (10 R in 8 2/3 IP). He still had a career minor league ERA of 2.72 and opponent average of .208 to that point. In the 2010 Pan American Games Qualifying Tournament, he relieved Javier Ortiz with a 2-2 tie against the Dominican national team but allowed two runs in the 9th to lose it. He had a 6.23 ERA for the event.
In 2011, García opened the year with Dunedin (2-3, 3.09 in 32 G) and had a brief stop with New Hampshire (2 R, 1 ER in 3 IP) before the Jays let him go. Returning to the independent leagues, he went 2-3 with a 4.70 ERA for the York Revolution but fanned 34 in 30 2/3 IP. He struggled in 2012 with York (1-0, 6.00 in 27 G) and the Wichita Wingnuts (0-1, 11.68, 23 H in 12 1/3 IP). Back with the Colombian national team for the 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, he allowed three hits, two walks and two runs in four innings in his lone outing, relieving Ronald Ramirez in the 2nd with a 5-0 deficit against Panama and lasting until the 6th before Yesid Salazar relieved. He was Colombia's best hurler that day in a 9-7 loss.
He was 4-0 with a 1.97 ERA in five starts for the 2014 Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings, allowing 21 hits in 32 innings but walking 24. He was on the Colombian squad that won the 2015 South American Championship to gain a spot in the 2015 Pan American Games. He allowed three runs in 2 1/3 IP in those Pan American Games; his three games pitched tied for second on Colombia, one behind Salazar. He cost Colombia (which wound up winless) the lead in a potential upset of Team USA (which earned Silver). Relieving Nabil Crismatt in the 6th with a 2-1 lead and two on, he gave up a three-run dinger to Casey Kotchman and Colombia lost 5-3.
