Biographical information

Jean Carlos Granados, also known as Jan Granado, is a former minor league baseball pitcher. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Cincinnati Reds in 1999, he made his professional debut in 2000 with the GCL Reds. For them he made six relief appearances, going 0-0 with 8 strikeouts and a 0.87 ERA in 10 1/3 innings. He also spent time with Cagua of the VSL that year, going 1-3 with a 2.82 ERA in 17 games.

He played for Cagua of the Venezuelan Summer League in 2001, going 7-4 with a 2.57 ERA in 14 games (11 starts). In 2002, he split time between the GCL Reds and Dayton Dragons (13 games with the Reds, 3 with the Dragons). Overall, he went 4-2 with a 2.82 ERA in 60 2/3 innings. Pitching for the Dragons and Potomac Cannons in 2003, Granado went 7-10 with a 4.52 ERA in 28 games (24 starts). The following season, he pitched for the Dragons and Cannons, going 5-8 with a 5.02 ERA in 31 games (16 starts).

For the 2005 season, Granados was in the Minnesota Twins organization after being selected in the AAA phase of the 2004 Rule V draft, and he split the season between the Fort Myers Miracle and New Britain Rock Cats. Used primarily as a reliever for the first time since his first season, Granado went 8-8 with a 3.84 ERA in 37 games (four starts).

Granados played in both affiliated and independent ball in 2006. Back in the Reds organization, he went 2-4 with a 2.09 ERA in 31 relief appearances for the Sarasota Reds and Chattanooga Lookouts. He made five appearances for the independent Newark Bears that season, starting four of the games. He went 1-1 with a 7.77 ERA for them.

He spent the entire 2007 season as a starter for the independent Anderson Joes. Although he was signed by the San Diego Padres that year, he was released before the season began. In 19 games (16 starts), he went 7-3 with a 2.67 ERA and 120 strikeouts (in 108 innings). He began 2008 with the Vaqueros Laguna, but was released after going 2-1 with a 6.55 ERA. Still, he managed to land a spot on the Venezuelan national team for the 2009 World Baseball Classic. He earned a win against Team USA in the first round seeding game on March 11 by pitching a well-timed third of an inning in relief of Victor Zambrano.

He pitched in 14 games for the Montepaschi Orioles Grosseto in the Italian Baseball League in 2011 and went 4-4 with a 3.48 ERA. His 45 walks (in 77 2/3 IP) tied Alejandro Morese and Marco Grifantini for the league lead. He moved almost exclusively to the Venezuelan Winter League after that. One season of note was 2013-14, when he had a 1.83 ERA in 27 appearances for the Tigres de Aragua. He joined the Mexican League for 2014, posting a 6.10 mark in 24 games between two teams. He had another noteworthy campaign in 2018-19, when he had a 2.33 mark in 22 games for the Navegantes del Magallanes.

Through 2020, he's played 13 seasons in the VWL.

He also participated in the 2017 European Champions Cup.
