The Wichita Wignuts joined the American Association in 2008. Their first manager was Independent Leagues stalwart Kash Beauchamp. After the team's inaugural season, he was replaced by former shortstop Kevin Hooper. The Wingnuts ceased operations after the 2018 season as the city of Wichita, KS planned to demolish their ballpark Lawrence-Dumont Stadium and build a new park for the AAA New Orleans Baby Cakes, who are relocating to Kansas in 2020.
