Ron Gerstein pitched in the minor leagues, the TML and Serie A1.
Gerstein was 0-1 with a 14.54 ERA for the Salt Lake City Trappers in 1990, then the Montreal Expos signed him. He pitched 9 1/3 shutout innings for the Sumter Flyers in 1991, and he was 4-8 with a 5.65 ERA and 5 saves for the Rockford Expos in 1992. The Expos traded him with Todd Samples to the Milwaukee Brewers for Oreste Marrero and Charlie Montoyo. Gerstein struggled again in 1993 as his ERA was 5.32 in 36 games.
He went 12-3 with a 4.40 ERA for the El Paso Diablos in 1994, tying Steve Peck for 5th in wins among Brewers farmhands and tying Peck for third in the Texas League. He then had a 8-12 record with a 4.55 ERA fr El Paso in 1995, trailing only Kelly Wunsch in losses in the Brewers chain and tying Jeff Schmidt for second in the TL. That ended his time in the Brewers chain. He was 14-4 with a 3.56 ERA for the independent Lubbock Crickets in 1996. He was 5th in the Texas-Louisiana League in ERA (between Lance Schhuermann and Kerry Knox), led in wins (one ahead of Dave Haas) and was 7th with 109 K (between Al Osuna and Al Osuna). He joined Haas, Knox, Daren Brown and Steve Duda as the TLL's All-Star starting pitchers.
The Kaoping Fala of Taiwan signed him next. Gerstein went 7-6 with a 3.46 ERA in 1997, and he also broke Rob Wishnevski’s TML record for 129 2/3 consecutive innings without allowing a homer. He was 9th in ERA, between Tim Mauser and Michel Laplante. He was 9-6 with a 3.71 ERA in 1998, finishing 8th in ERA (between Len Picota and Steve Wilson). Signing with Italy's Grosseto club, he struggled at 0-3 with a save and a 6.51 ERA in 1999, then he retired.
He had gone 62-48 with 8 saves as a pro.
