The 1999 Serie A1 season saw a return to wood bats and with them a drop-off in offence. 169 HR's were hit in 1999 compared with 449 the previous year. Italeri Bologna RHP Elcilio De Leon pitched a 5 inning, rain-shortened no-hitter on April 17 then on July 3 former major league LHP Tom Urbani pitched a perfect game for Rimini against T&A San Marino.
Semenzato Rimini dominated the regular season finishing nine games ahead of second-placed Caffe Danesi Nettuno then beat Nettuno in the Italian Series to win their eighth scudetto.
