Mauro Mazzotti has played and coached in Italy. He played in Serie A1 in the 1970s and 1980s, only going 8 for 103 with 38 strikeouts while fielding .846. He was much more successful in an administrative role, becoming the first coach in Italy to win titles with 3 teams. He guided Rimini to a title in 1999, Bologna to crowns in 2003 and 2005 and Grosseto to a pennant in 2007. He also scouted for the Seattle Mariners from 1994-2006 and became the Houston Astros European scouting coordinator starting in 2007. In 2013, he moved to the Baltimore Orioles as a scout. He coached for Italy in the 2007 European Championship.

Mazzotti was announced as the new manager of the Spanish national team in April 2009. He managed Spain in the 2009 Baseball World Cup, 2010 European Championship (when they had their worst finish in their 50+ years of play in the Euros, placing 9th), 2012 European Championship (a Bronze Medal), 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers (winning a spot in the Classic), 2013 World Baseball Classic and 2014 European Championship (a Bronze Medal) before parting ways with Spain.

He is the general manager of the T&A San Marino as of 2011.
