Biographical Information[edit]
Doriano Bindi was an outfielder and pitcher for San Marino. He debuted in 1986 to hit .222/.317/.306 while going 2-0 with a 2.54 ERA. In 1987, he was 2-0 with two saves and a 1.87 ERA and batted .188/.268/.266. He improved his average to .296/.406/.370 in '88 when he fell to 2-1, 6.58 on the hill.
In 1989, Bindi was 3-9 with four saves and a 4.12 ERA for San Marino; he hit .141/.221/.179. He batted .222/.320/.275 with 61 strikeouts in 153 AB in 1990 and was 3-6 with a 5.29 ERA. In '91, Doriano batted .172/.274/.195 and barely pitched. The next year, he hit .152/.212/.286 with 47 strikeouts in 105 AB and was 1-3 with a save and a 4.15 ERA. He wrapped as a player in 1993 by allowing 7 runs (4 earned) in 9 2/3 IP and going 2 for 12 with a walk and a double.
Overall, Bindi had hit .188/.276/.251 with 252 strikeouts in 661 AB. On the mound, he had been 13-22 with a 4.82 ERA in 90 outings.
Bindi later became the manager for San Marino, where he had more success than as a player. He was named the Italian Baseball League Manager of the Year for 2008.
