The 1998 Serie A1 championship was won by Caffe Danesi Nettuno. Nettuno finished tied with La Gardenia Grosseto for first place, then beat Cariparma in the semifinal and Semenzato Rimini in the Italian Series to secure their 15th scudetto.
1998 was the last year aluminum bats were used. This was the last season eight-time Italian champions Mediolanum Milan played in Serie A1. Italeri Bologna returned to Serie A1 after spending one season in Serie A2.
