Biographical Information[edit]

Jeff Schmidt pitched in the major leagues in 1996, posting a win-loss record of 2-0 while appearing in nine games in relief.

Jeff was born in Northfield, MN, one of three major leaguers (through 2019) born there; the others are Caleb Thielbar and Jake Petricka. All three were or are pitchers. Jeff attended the University of Minnesota, and was drafted in the first round of the 1992 Amateur Draft, a year after Brent Gates was drafted in the first round from the same college.

Jeff had seven years in the minors, with his best year being 1996, with the Vancouver Canadians, when he had an ERA of 2.87 with 19 saves. He stayed with the Vancouver team in 1997 and 1998.

Jeff earned his law degree in 2003 and worked in a Wisconsin law firm, then joined the University of Wisconsin where he was promoted to the position of Senior Associate Athletics Director for Administration and Legal Affairs in 2019. Source: UW Badgers site about Jeff Schmidt.
