Biographical Information[edit]
Rob Wishnevski pitched in the minor leagues and the CPBL.
Wishnevski was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 3rd round of the 1987 Amateur Draft, and he had a 7-2 record with a 1.53 ERA for the St. Catharines Blue Jays in 1987. He improved to 11-11 with a 3.89 ERA in 1988 for the Dunedin Blue Jays. In 1989, Wishnevski was 6-1 with a 2.31 ERA for the AA Knoxville Blue Jays, but his ERA was 6.66 with the AAA Syracuse Chiefs. In 1991, he was 6-8 with a 2.94 ERA in Knoxville, and he was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers with a player to be named for Candy Maldonado on August 9; William Suero was later selected. He had a 3.94 ERA in 7 games for the El Paso Diablos in the rest of the season.
As a reliever, Wishnevski had a 1.04 ERA in 13 games for the Diablos in 1992, but he recorded a 5.03 ERA in 44 appearances for AAA Denver Zephyrs. He was 5-3 with a 4.09 ERA for the New Orleans Zephyrs, and he became a free agent. The St. Louis Cardinals then signed him, and he was 9-8 with a 3.94 ERA for the Louisville Redbirds in 1994. He had a 6-3 record with a 3.47 ERA in 41 relief outings in his last year in the minor league for the Oklahoma City 89ers of the Texas Rangers system.
The Brother Elephants then signed him in 1996, and he was named their closer. Wishnevski was 8-2 with a 1.67 ERA and 26 saves in that season, and he set the CPBL single season ERA record (broken by Jen-Wen Hsiao in 2001.[1] He was 2nd in saves (3 behind Mike Garcia) and he became the first CPBL pitcher who was qualified for the ERA title and didn't allowed any homers in a season. The Seibu Lions then signed him, and he had a 4.22 ERA in 34 appearances with 6 saves in 1997.[2]
Wishnevski then joined the Chianan Luka, and he was 3-2 with 14 saves and a 1.89 ERA before he was traded to the Taipei Gida; he had a 2.48 ERA in 16 games for the Gida. Wishnevski had a 3.60 ERA in 28 games with 15 saves in 1999 for the Gida, but he had a fight with fans in the middle of the season, then the Gida released him. The Kaoping Fala picked him up, and he was 1-1 with a 2.04 ERA in 21 games for them.[3] After leaving Taiwan, he pitched for the Diablos Rojos del Mexico in 2000, and he notched 25 saves with a 2.64 ERA in 55 appearances. He announced his retirement after that season.
Overall, Wishnevski was 77-55 with 31 saves and a 3.65 ERA in 338 games in the minors. He was 17-9 with 66 saves and a 2.12 ERA in 160 games in the CPBL and the TML.
