The roots of the Pacific-10 Conference go back to 1915, when the Pacific Coast Conference (PCC) was founded. Original membership consisted of four schools - the University of California at Berkeley, the University of Washington, the University of Oregon, and Oregon State College (now Oregon State University). Washington State joined in 1917 and Stanford in 1918. In 1922, the PCC expanded to eight teams with the admission of the University of Southern California and the University of Idaho. Montana joined the Conference in 1924, and in 1928, the PCC grew to 10 members with the addition of UCLA. Montana left in 1950 and in 1959 the conference dissolved. A new Conference was formed - the Athletic Association of Western Universities consisting of California, Stanford, Southern California, UCLA, and Washington. Washington State joined in 1962, and Oregon and Oregon State joined in 1964. In 1968, the name Pacific-8 Conference was adopted. In 1978, the University of Arizona and Arizona State University were admitted and the Pacific-10 Conference name was adopted.

Much of the PCC/Pac-10's baseball history includes teams that competed in baseball only. From 1927 to 1966 and again 1976, the California schools competed in the California Intercollegiate Baseball Association along with traditionally non-conference schools like Santa Clara University (1927-1966), St. Mary's (1927-1950), University of San Francisco (1931-1932, 1943), and UC Santa Barbara (1964-1966, 1976). The northern schools then competed in the aptly-named Northern Division. The University of Oregon dropped baseball after the 1981 season. Reviving history, the University of Portland, Gonzaga University, Portland State University, and Eastern Washington University joined the conference in baseball only in 1982. EWU dropped out in 1990, GU and UP in 1995, and PSU after the 1998. Oregon brought baseball back in 2009. The University of Utah joins in the 2011-2012 school year and the University of Colorado joins the conference in 2011-2012, but UC does not sponsor baseball.

On July 1, 2011, the conference oficially became the Pac 12. At the end of June 2022, the conference was rocked when USC and UCLA announced they would leave the Pac 12 to join the Big 10 Conference in the 2024-2025 school year, yet another move driven by football and media revenue. In July 2023, Colorado (a non-baseball school) left for the Big 12 Conference. On August 4, 2023 it was announced the Washington and Oregon were following USC and UCLA to the Big 10, leaving the conference in dire straits. At that point rumors swirled about Arizona, Arizona State, and Utah possibly following Colorado to the Big 12. Later that day, the 3 mountain schools did indeed announce they were joining the Big 12, all but ending the Pac 12 after over 100 years of history. On September 1, the Atlantic Coast Conference invited Stanford University and University of California to join, putting the nail in the Pac 12 coffin. Washington State and Oregon still have control over the Pac-12 Conference name and history, so the possibility remains of a resurrection for the conference. Rumors of talks with the Mountain West abounded.

Oregon State's baseball program went independent for 2025. Washington State's baseball program went to the Mountain West Conference for 2025-2026. In September 2024, the conference showed signs of life, bringing in Boise State University, Fresno State University, Colorado State University, and San Diego State University for the 2026-2027 school year bringing the conference back up to six schools, only four of which sponsor baseball. The conference still needed to add at least two schools. Later that month Utah State University and Gonzaga University were announced as members in 2026-2027, bringing the conference up to five baseball schools.
