Boise State University was a junior college known as Boise Junior College from 1932-1965. The first year the Broncos fielded a baseball team was 1936. Boise Junior College made back-to-back trips to the NJCAA Baseball World Series in 1960 and 1961. The school was known as Boise College (1965-1969), Boise State College (1969-1974) and Boise State University since 1974. The Broncos competed as a four-year school from 1969-1980. The Broncos played in the Big Sky Conference from 1971-1974, when the conference dropped baseball. BSU was then in the Northern Pacific Conference from 1975-1980.

The school has announced plans to relaunch its baseball program starting in 2020. Gary Van Tol was hired as the Broncos' head coach in November 2017. After one season (abbreviated due to COVID-19) playing in the Mountain West Conference in 2020, the school discontinued the sport once again [1] [2].
