Lyle Hilton Smith

Biographical Information[edit]

Lyle Smith was a college coach.

He helped his basketball team win two high school state titles and was All-State in 1933 and 1934. He played football (center) and basketball (guard) in college. He began teaching at Firth High School in 1939 then coached and taught at Moscow High School in 1941. He joined the Navy in World War II.

He became head basketball coach at Boise Junior College in 1946 and head football coach in 1947, a role he held through 1967 (158-25-6). He served in the Korean War in a break from his coaching duties to serve his country. His football team won the NJCAA title in 1958.

He was head baseball coach at Boise from 1948-1973.
