Biographical Information[edit]
Niki Eckert has pitched for the USA women's national team.
She debuted in the 2023-2024 Women's Baseball World Cup, making three relief appearances in the group stage. She debuted versus Australia, relieving Elise Berger with a 3-1 lead, one on and two out in the 6th. She plunked Leah Cornish and Claire O'Sullivan and Caitlin Enyon both singled, making it 3-2; Cornish was thrown out trying to score the tying run. Meggie Meidlinger took over in the 7th. Her next outing was smoother, relieving Jamie Baum in the 4th with a 11-0 lead over South Korea. Nu-ri Shin singled but So-yeon Park hit into a double play. Eckert walked Hae-ri Kim then picked her off. Olivia Pichardo closed out the game. Her final outing was against Mexico. Succeeding Berger with a 5-0 lead in the 5th, she hit Marlen Lagunes and struck out Marcela Diaz. Samaria Benítez flew out then Lagunes was picked off to end the inning; Pichardo took over again. She tied for the most appearances in Group A, even with Yik-Shan Hung, Min-jeong Kwang, Yin-Sum Kwong, Hei-Ting Lau, Ji-sook Lee and Debby Su-Yee Mak, leading the pool champion Americans as they advanced to the 2024 phase. While USA Baseball lists her as both batting and throwing left, and available pictures confirm this, the WBSC site mistakenly has her as righthanded in both instances.
