Biographical Information[edit]

Yin-Sum Kwong debuted for the Hong Kong women's national team in the 2023 Women's Baseball Asian Cup. The teenager sat out the first round then became a workhorse hurler and shortstop in the next rounds. She stole four bases against Indonesia and got the win over Reshma Shivaji Punekar despite 7 walks in 3 1/3 IP. The next day, she started and beat Jie Xhang and China (6 R, 5 ER in 4 IP). She drove in four runs that day as well. After a day of not pitching, she started again and lost to Sayuri Ono and South Korea, giving up 2 runs (1 earned) in 2/3 of an inning. She started again two days later, losing to Ono in the Bronze Medal Game; she allowed six runs in one inning but only one was earned. Overall, she hit .385/.429/.462 with six RBI and five steals, while going 2-2 with a 7.00 ERA, getting decisions in four of their six games in the main rounds. She was among the tourney leaders in both wins (tied with Ono and Kana Onodera) and losses (tied with Punekar and Made Ayu Oktaviani)! She also tied for first in games pitched, led in starts and led in walks (14, 3 ahead of Punekar) and was tied for 8th in K (5, even with Yi-Hsuan Chiu and Min-sung Park), 3rd in runs allowed (17, behind Nawra Salma Fatima and Punekar), tied for 7th in earned runs allowed (9), 3rd in IP (9, behind Sixuan Liu and Yik-Shan Hung) and tied Hung for 4th in hits allowed (14). Hong Kong fared well enough to advance to the 2023 Women's Baseball World Cup. She was 0-1 with a 7.35 ERA, losing to Maddison Tabrett and Australia and walked 10 in 6 2/3 IP, though she did strike out 7. She was 0 for 6 with a RBI and fielded .875. She tied for first in group A in appearances on the hill (3, even with Cody Eckert, Min-jeong Kwak, Hei-Ting Lau, Ji-sook Lee and Debby Su-Yee Mak), tied Min-sung Park for 6th in IP (6 2/3), tied for 7th in runs allowed (7), tied Alexane Fournier for 5th in earned runs allowed (7), tied Mak and Gen Beacom for 3rd in walks and tied Rosa del Castillo and Kelsie Whitmore for 4th in strikeouts.
