Biographical Information[edit]

Manuel Joseph has played in the Dominican Republic, Colombia and Italy.

He was signed by Detroit Tigers scouts Miguel Rodriguez, Ramon Perez and Miguel Garcia in October 2011. [1] He hit .295/.370/.435 for the 2012 DSL Tigers and led Dominican Summer League shortstops in fielding percentage (.957). [2] He improved his batting to .338/.407/.464 for the same team in 2013 and stole 24 bases in 29 tries. Moving to center field, he fielded .966. He tied Daniel Fields for 4th in the Tigers chain in swipes. In the DSL, he tied Francisco Contreras for 5th in RBI (48), was 5th in average (between Olvy Marte and Alex Mercedes) and was 9th in OPS (between Allen Valerio and Frank Frias). [3]

Despite two solid years in the DSL, he returned for a third season there in 2014. He continued to star at .379/.456/.592 with 55 runs, 7 triples and 45 RBI in 60 games, while playing in the infield primarily. He tied for third in the Detroit farm chain in triples. He tied for 8th in the DSL in runs, was 9th in RBI (between Yerald Martinez and Ignacio Valdez), was second in average (.005 behind Joantgel Segovia), ranked 4th in OBP (between Segovia and Jenner Emeterio), led in slugging (.042 ahead of Devinson Pimentel) and led in OPS (55 points ahead of Pimentel). [4] He was named a DSL All-Star. [5] Despite that dominant performance, it was the end of his time in the Tigers chain as they never called him stateside. He had hit .338/.412/.498 in 174 minor league games, with 123 runs and 126 RBI.

Joseph played in the Colombian League. [6] He signed with Italy's Collecchio team for 2021 and hit .343/.485/.626 with 36 runs, stealing 13 bases in 13 tries. He tied Leo Rodríguez and Shakir Albert for 5th in homers (7) and tied Andrea Sellaroli for 6th in steals. [7]

Moving to Parma, he starred in the 2022 European Champions Cup. He had 3 runs against Heidenheim Heideköpfe, then homered in the last three games - off former major leaguer Shairon Martis of the Amsterdam Pirates, the Bonn Capitals' Christian Tomsich and Mike Groen of Amsterdam in the finale. Also in the finale, his double off Nelmerson Angela chased the starting pitcher in the third and he wound up scoring. Down 6-5 in the 8th, his two-run double off Franklin van Gurp scored Aldo Koutsoyanopulos with the tying run and Exequiel Talevi with the game-winner. In the five games of the Cup, he hit .450/.542/1.050 with 3 doubles, 3 homers, 4 walks, 7 runs and 10 RBI while fielding .958 at SS. He tied for 2nd in runs (one behind Talevi), tied for 5th in hits (with Talevi, Danny Lankhorst and John Polonius), tied Sicnarf Loopstok for 2nd in doubles (one behind Alberto Mineo), tied Noel González for second in homers (one shy of Denzel Richardson), tied Richardson for the RBI lead, was second in total bases (21, 2 behind Richardson), tied Lankhorst for 6th in average, was 6th in OBP (between Luke Sommer and Nick Miceli), ranked third in slugging (behind Loopstok and Richardson), tied for 8th in walks and was 3rd in OPS (after Loopstok and Richardson). He was named Cup MVP. [8]
