Biographical Information[edit]

The Detroit Tigers signed Francisco Contreras as a free agent from the Dominican Republic in 2010. He played in their minor league system through 2015 as an infielder. He went to spring training with the Tigers in 2016, but they released him and offered him a coaching position instead.

Contreras was a coach with the Connecticut Tigers in 2016, a hitting coach with the GCL Tigers West in 2017, and a coach with the Lakeland Flying Tigers in 2018-2019. He was scheduled to manage the GCL Tigers East in 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic caused the minor league season to be cancelled. In 2021 Contreras worked as the Tigers' Latin American Hitting Coordinator. He then returned to Lakeland as hitting coach in 2022. Contreras was slated to coach West Michigan Whitecaps hitters in 2023, but he was moved up to the Erie SeaWolves before the season began. He then coached West Michigan in 2024.

In addition, he coached first base for Leones del Escogido during the 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 Dominican League seasons.
