Biographical Information

Daniel Fields is the son of Bruce Fields.

Daniel hit .596 as a high school senior with 13 homers, 30 steals and 50 runs. He was named second-team high school All-American by Baseball America. The Detroit Tigers, his father's former team, picked him in the 6th round of the 2009 amateur draft. The scout was Tom Osowski. He did not play in the minors that year, but Baseball America still rated him as the Tigers system' fastest baserunner, best athlete and 9th-best prospect.

In 2010, Fields made his pro debut with the Lakeland Flying Tigers. He hit .240/.343/.371 with 8 steals in 17 tries. One positive was his glovework, as he fielded .996 to lead outfielders in the Florida State League. Despite the unimpressive offensive debut, Baseball America ranked him as Detroit's 5th-best prospect and best athlete. The next year, he fell to .220/.308/.326 in a repeat engagement with Lakeland. He fielded .993. His 133 strikeouts were second in the FSL, four behind leader and teammate Wade Gaynor. Baseball America downgraded him to the Tigers' #27 prospect.
