Biographical Information[edit]

Kai-Cheng Wang has played in the CPBL.

Wang studied in Japan, and the Ishikawa Million Stars of the Baseball Challenge League signed him in 2015. He had a 3.41 ERA in 38 relief outings there, then he decided to came back to his native Taiwan.[1] After spending two years in the amateur leagues, the CTBC Brothers drafted him in the 6th round of the 2017 CPBL Draft. Wang had a 1.12 ERA in 8 appearances in his rookie year, and the Brothers advanced to the 2017 Taiwan Series.[2] He relieved Che-Yuan Wu in the 9th inning of Game 1, and he allowed three runs due to Yin-Lun Lan's double with the bases loaded. He then pitched a shutout inning in Game 4, but the Monkeys still beat the Brothers in 4 games to win the title. Wang represented Taiwan in the 2017 Asia Professional Baseball Championship. He relieved Shih-Ying Peng in the 7th inning against Japan when the bases were loaded, and he gave up a 2-run double to Go Matsumoto. Wang walked Kensuke Kondo, fanned Hotaka Yamakawa and Yao-Lin Wang relieved him. He then relieved Kuan-Yu Chen in the 7th inning against South Korea. Wang walked Ji-hyuk Ryu then retired Ju-suk Ha to end this inning, and Peng succeed him after he retired Seung-taek Han.[3] However, he only pitched 7 games in 2018 with a 12.00 ERA.

The Taitung native nearly plunked Chung-Yu Chen in the head on June 12, 2019, and Wang celebrated after striking out Chen. This led to a fight; Wang was ejected. He ended up having a 3.86 ERA in 37 games, and collected a hold. He also relieved Radhames Liz in the 8th inning of 2019 CPBL All-Star Game 1, but he gave up a game-tying solo shot to Chih-Chieh Su. Wang suffered a back injury in 2020, so he only pitched two games with the big club. He couldn't fully recovered from the injury, and he only pitched 13 games combined in the next three seasons.
