Biographical Information[edit]

Jung-jin Park pitched in the Korea Baseball Organization for 16 years

Park represented South Korea in the 1994 World Junior Championship and 1997 Asian Championship. The Hanwha Eagles took him in the first round of the 1999 KBO draft, and he had a 8.03 ERA in 12 games in his first season. Park struggled again in 2000 as he recorded a 5.65 ERA in 17 games, then he went 4-3 with a 4.74 ERA in 2001. His ERA rose to 6.65 in 41 games in 2002, then he notched 11 holds with a 4.31 ERA in 57 games in 2003. Park pitched 31 games with a 5.51 ERA in 2004, and he missed the next two years due to military service.

The Cheongju native mainly stayed in the minors in 2007 and 2008 seasons, and he only got 5 appearances with the big club. He recorded a 3.48 ERA in 17 games in 2009, then the Eagles released him. Since they had a lack of southpaws, he returned to the Eagles in 2010, and he finally broke out. Park notched 10 saves and 6 holds with a 3.06 ERA in 56 games, and he was 7th in saves (between Hyun-wook Jong and Ji-man An). He then collected 7 saves and 16 holds in 2011, and his ERA was 3.24 in 64 appearances. Park was 8th in holds (tied with Young-sik Kang) and 5th in appearances (tied with Ju-won Oh and Kang).

Park suffered from a shoulder injury in 2012, and his ERA rose to 5.47 in 63 relief outings with 12 holds. He collected 6 holds with a 5.82 ERA in 2013, then he got 9 saves and 7 holds with a 6.02 ERA in 60 games in 2014. Park bounced back as his ERA was 3.09 in 76 games with 15 holds in 2015, and he was 5th in appearances (4 behind Jung-ho Lim and 6th in holds (between Deok-ju Ham and Keum-kang Choi). Park led the KBO with 77 appearances in 2016, and he got 6 holds with a 5.57 ERA. His ERA was 3.94 in 55 games in 2017, then he missed the entire 2018 season due to another shoulder injury. Park announced his retirement after the '18 season. He was the bullpen coach of the Eagles in 2020, and he became their minor league pitching coach in 2021.

Overall, Park was 45-43 with a 4.55 ERA, collected 35 saves and 96 holds in 691 appearances, struck out 722 and pitched 789 1/3 innings in 16 seasons in the KBO. As of 2024, he was 16th in appearances (between Dong-hyon Lee and Eun-beom Song) and 18th in holds (between Kwon Ju and Bo-geun Lee). He was also the career holds leader of the Eagles.
