He relieved Jung-keun Bong with men on the corners and none out in the 5th of a 1-0 game. He promptly struck out Kenji Johjima and Michihiro Ogasawara while Norichika Aoki was caught stealing to end the threat. Jong tossed a scoreless 6th. In the 7th, he gave up hits to Yasuyuki Kataoka, Ichiro Suzuki and Hiroyuki Nakajima as Japan went ahead 2-1. In the 8th, he gave up a one-out hit to Seiichi Uchikawa and was relieved by Hyun-jin Ryu, who let the inherited run score. South Korea rallied to tie it in the 9th but lost it in the 10th.

Through 2008, Jong is 23-23 with a 4.06 ERA in the KBO.
