Biographical Information[edit]

Jonathan Carbó has pitched in Cuba and for the Cuban national team.

He debuted for the Toronjeros de Isla de la Juventud in the 2014-2015 Cuban Serie Nacional; the teenager had a 4.26 ERA in six games. He had a 5.40 ERA in 19 outings in 2015-2016 and giving up three runs in a third of an inning in 2016-2017. He entered the rotation in 2017-2018, going 2-5 with a 6.55 ERA and 1.96 WHIP. He improved to 4-5, 4.58 in 2018-2019.

In 2019-2020, he was 3-6 with a 4.67 ERA in the first half then reinforced the Industriales for the second half, going 0-2 with a 6.04 ERA. He had a 8-9, 4.47 record for the 2020-2021 Toronjeros. He was 4th in complete games (4), tied Franky Quintana and Frank Navarro for 3rd in losses, tied Carlos Juan Viera for 5th in IP and allowed the most homers (13). [1] He was with Cuba for the 2021 Caribbean Baseball Cup. [2]

The right-hander improved to 8-5, 3.49 in 2021-2022. He then pitched for Grosseto in the 2022 Serie A1, going 4-4 with a 2.25 ERA and 63 K in 56 IP. He tied for fourth in complete games (3). [3] He was 1-3 with a 4.44 ERA for the Tabacaleros de Pinar del Río, Artemisa & Isla de la Juventud in the Cuban Elite League that year as well. He reinforced the Agricultores de Granma y Las Tunas for the 2023 Caribbean Series but struggled (0-2, 11.37) in losses to the Tigres del Licey's Domingo Robles and the Vaqueros de Montería's Hernando Mejía. He tied Matt Pobereyko, Davis Romero and Julio Vivas for the most losses. He allowed the most earned runs (8) and was one run allowed behind leader Jhoulys Chacín's 9.

During the 2023 Serie Nacional, he had a 5-5, 2.59 record. He was among the leaders in IP (90 1/3, tied Wilson Paredes for 8th), strikeouts (60, 9th, between Erly Casanova and Raymond Figueredo), ERA (4th, between José Grandales and Wilber Reyna) and WHIP (1.18, tied for 4th with Geonel Gutiérrez). [4] He was excellent for Cuba when they won Silver in the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games. He went five shutout innings (3 H, 1 BB, 8 K) to beat Héctor Martínez and El Salvador. He tied Brayan Salaya for 3rd in whiffs. [5] In the 2023 Caribbean Baseball Cup, he beat Puerto Rico and Miguel Mejia despite allowing a run in one inning. [6] He was on Cuba's roster for the 2023 Pan American Games but did not pitch; it is unclear if he was injured or if there was some other reason he did not play. [7]
