Biographical Information[edit]

Wilson Paredes has pitched in the Cuban Serie Nacional and Canadian-American Association and for the Cuban national team.

He debuted in 2007-2008 for Holguín with a 8.80 ERA and 2.22 WHIP in 14 games. The teenager was about as bad the next season (2.46 WHIP, 7.36 ERA in 4 G). He did not pitch in the Serie Nacional the next season and returned briefly in 2010-2011 (0-1, 11 H, 6 BB, 13 R in 3 IP). After another year away, he improved to 3-3 with two saves and a 4.22 ERA in 2012-2013. That year, he also pitched a 22-strikeout no-hitter in a regional league. [1]

After another year off, he was back with Holguín for 2014-2015 (6.17 ERA in 25 G). He was a somewhat reliable reliever in 2015-2016 (1-4, 3 Sv, 4.34 in 26 G) then missed another season. In 2017-2018, he was 3-6 with a 3.43 ERA, fanning 66 but walking 39 in 57 2/3 IP. He tied for the team lead in strikeouts.

Paredes blossomed in 2018-2019, going 10-5 with 7 saves and a 3.90 ERA. He tied Yadián Martínez and Yander Guevara for 3rd in Cuba in wins, tied Armando Dueñas Jr. for 8th in saves, was 6th in IP (127, between Yoalkis Cruz and Guevara), was 3rd in walks (48, behind Yariel Rodríguez and Martínez), was 7th in winning percentage and was second in Ks (88, 30 behind Rodríguez). [2] He pitched for Cuba in the Canadian-American Association, going 2-0 with a save and a 5.98 ERA in seven outings.

The veteran debuted for the national team in the 2019 Pan American Games. He pitched two games. He closed out a 6-1 loss to Colombia, relieving Frank Medina in the 8th. He retired Milton Ramos but Diover Ávila singled in an inherited runner (Derwin Pomare) for Colombia's last run. Paredes then fanned Efrain Contreras. [3] In the 5th/6th place game, he was part of a Cuban bullpen that blew a 8-run lead in the bottom of the 10th. He relieved Medina with a 9-8 lead, two on and two out. He allowed a single to Osvaldo Abreu to load the bases then Yudiel Rodríguez relieved and gave up the losing hit. [4]

He was 1-4 with four saves and a 5.57 ERA in Cuba in 2019-2020, fading back to older levels of performance. In 2020-2021, though, he bounced back to 7-5, 4.16 with three saves.
