Biographical Information[edit]
Diover Ávila hit .279 and stole 10 bases for the 2009 Yuma Scorpions, a team loaded with fellow Colombian players. He then helped Colombia take Silver at the 2010 South American Games. He played for the Colombian national team in the 2010 Pan American Games Qualifying Tournament, going 2 for 9. In the 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, the outfielder was 0 for 6 with a walk and a run. He won Gold with Colombia in the 2015 South American Championship. He was 2 for 7 with a walk in the 2015 Pan American Games, backing up Tito Polo in left field.
He played well in the 2017 Bolivarian Games as Colombia won Gold for the first time since 1973. He was 5 for 10 with a double, walk, steal, three runs and two RBI, posting the top average on a team with major leaguers Adrián Sánchez and Jorge Alfaro and many others with more notable pro careers. In the Gold Medal game win over defending champion Panama, he was 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBI in a 6-4 win.
