Biographical Information

Frank Medina has pitched in the Cuban Serie Nacional and for the Cuban national team.

Medina debuted for Pinar del Río in the 2013-2014 Serie Nacional, relatively old for a player debuting in the Serie Nacional; he allowed 10 hits in 16 at-bats and posted a 16.88 ERA. He was 1-1 with a 5.55 ERA for Pinar del Río in 2014-2015. In 2015-2016, he improved to 2-0, 3.02 with 3 saves. He pitched three times for Cuba in the Canadian-American Association and did well (10 K, 1 R in 7 2/3 IP).

He was 1-1 with a 6.23 ERA for Pinar del Río in 2016-2017 and moved to Matanzas as a postseason reinforcement (1-0, Sv, 3.97). He was on Cuba's designated pitcher pool for the second round of the 2017 World Baseball Classic but was not activated. He had a 2.55 ERA in nine games that summer in the Can-Am Association. In the 2017-2018 Serie Nacional, he was 5-4 with 8 saves and a 3.81 ERA. His 36 games pitched were one shy of league leader Israel Sánchez. He tied Luis Castillo Muñoz for 6th in saves as well.

Frank was 0-1 with a 1.12 ERA for Cuba in the 2018 Haarlem Baseball Week, losing to Germany and Cuban-born Enorbel Márquez. He tied for 3rd in the event with four appearances. He saved Geonel Gutiérrez's win for the Occidentales in the Cuban All-Star Game that fall. He was 4-4 with a save and a 1.46 ERA for Pinar del Río in the first half of the 2018-2019 Serie Nacional. When they didn't qualify for the second half, he was picked up by the Industriales and was 5-3 with a 3.91 ERA for them. He edged Alaín Sánchez for the ERA title, 2.76 to 2.79. He also tied Yadián Martínez for 2nd in WHIP (1.29), tied Yadián Martínez and Alberto Bicet for 3rd with 4 complete games, tied Bicet for 3rd in IP (130 2/3), tied for 4th in losses and tied for 6th in wins (with Dachel Duquesne, Pedro Ángel Álvarez and Alaín Sánchez. He switched teams again for the postseason but struggled for Sancti Spíritus (0-2, 9.39). He was 1-1 with a save and a 4.50 ERA in the Canadian-American Association in the summer.

He debuted for Cuba in the 2019 Pan American Games but had a 54.55, 5th-highest in the event (only higher were Dewin Pérez, Diego Echeverría, Alonso Tenya and Kevin Yamamoto). In his debut, he relieved Pedro Ángel Álvarez in the opener against Colombia with a 4-1 deficit to open the 8th. He allowed singles to Steve Brown and Derwin Pomare, fanned Sneider Batista but allowed a run-scoring single to Christian Correa. Wilson Paredes came in and let the inherited runner score. In the 5th/6th place game against the Dominican national team, he was part of a bullpen effort that blew a 8-run edge in the bottom of the 10th. He replaced Álvarez again, this time with a 9-7 lead, two outs and one on. He walked Eduardo De Oleo and gave up a single to Osvaldo Abreu to put the potential winning run aboard. Paredes relieved and the Dominicans would score all 3 runners, handing Medina the loss.
