Biographical Information[edit]

Kevin Yamamoto has pitched for the Peruvian national team.

Yamamoto was 16 years old when he played for Peru in the 2015 South American Championship; they won Bronze. [1] In the 2016 South American Championship, he was 0-2 with a 21.60 ERA in four games, losing to Argentina and Brazil. He tied Jonathan Farías, Horacio Acosta and Walter Vargas for the tournament lead in losses. [2]

He was hit hard in the 2017 Bolivarian Games, with 8 hits, 2 walks and 9 runs (7 earned) in 1 1/3 IP. He did not have Peru's highest ERA as Katsuhiro Nishizawa was higher. [3] He pitched twice in the 2019 Pan American Games, Peru's first baseball appearance in the 2019 Pan American Games. In his first outing, he relieved Jose Herrera in the 9th with a surprisingly close 6-1 deficit against the Dominican national team, two on and no outs. He walked Ronny Paulino and allowed a grand slam to Willy García. He retired Miguel Gómez then hit Rafael Ynoa before Alex Takano relieved him. In the 7th/8th place game, he relieved Takano with a 10-0 deficit in the 4th, one out and two on against Argentina. He served up a two-run double to Sebastián García, hit Lucas Montalbetti, gave up a two-run double to Eduardo Zurbriggen to make it 14-0, then gave up singles to both Agustín Tissera and Exequiel Talevi for a 15-0 score. José Gerez hit into an error to make it 16-0. Gianpierre Reaño relieved and let all three inherited runners in. Yamamoto thus finished the event with a 162.00 ERA, the highest in the Games; Diego Echeverría and Dewin Pérez were next at 108.00. [4]
