Biographical Information[edit]

Alex Takano has pitched for the Peruvian national team.

He debuted for Peru at age 18 in the 2019 Pan American Games, their youngest player; Ignacio Castro was next-youngest. He debuted against the Dominican national team, relieving Kevin Yamamoto with a 10-1 deficit in the 9th, one on and one out. He fanned Diego Goris but former major leaguer Audry Pérez singled and John Mora walked to load the bags. He recovered to get Osvaldo Abreu to hit into an inning-ending force. He also pitched in the 7th/8th place game versus Argentina. He relieved Jesús Vargas with a 9-0 deficit in the 3rd, the bases loaded and one out. He escaped that jam by fanning Agustín Tissera and getting Exequiel Talevi to hit into a force. It was Argentina's lone scoreless inning in a 20-1 mercy rule win in which they only had to bat in four innings. In the 4th, Takano had some struggles. He walked José Gerez and Federico Gómez, allowed a RBI single to Nicolás Solari and threw a wild pitch. Yamamoto took over and allowed both runners to score. [1]

Takano made one rough appearance in the 2022 Bolivarian Games, versus the champion Dominican national team. Relieving Edgar Paredes with a 2-0 deficit in the third and two on with no out, he allowed a RBI single to Wandherley Del Rosario. He retired Trinitty Berrora but Stanley Javier and Darlin German both hit RBI singles to make it 5-0. Randy Francisco hit into a force then Josuel Chalas doubled in a pair. Yamamoto relieved him. He had the Games' highest ERA, 10.50 worse than Marcos Frias and Jesús Tona. [2] Later that month, he got a brighter moment in the 2022 South American Championship, closing out a combined no-hitter with Ken Ishihara and Gianpierre Reaño. He went 1-2-3 against Bolivia's Franklin Montero, Bernabe Martinez and Percy Venegas. [3]
