Biographical Information[edit]

Dewen Perez began his pro career in 2012.

Perez signed with the St. Louis Cardinals in July 2011. With the 2012 DSL Cardinals, he was 1-4 with a 3.06 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 35 1/3 IP. He pitched for the Colombian national team in the 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. In his lone appearance, he relieved Dayan Diaz with a 4-1 deficit, two on and one out in the bottom of the 7th versus Brazil. He retired Daniel Matsumoto on a force, but gave up a run-scoring double to Juan Muñiz and threw a wild pitch to score another run before retiring Felipe Burin. In the 8th, he gave up a double to Tiago Magalhães then got both Pedro Okuda and Paulo Orlando on grounders. Leonardo Reginatto singled to make it 7-1, then Perez was replaced on the hill by Randy Consuegra.

He was 2-4 with a 3.23 ERA for the 2013 GCL Cardinals then 6-2 with a 3.68 ERA for the 2014 State College Spikes. He tied for sixth in the New York-Penn League in wins. He split 2015 between the GCL Cardinals (0-1, 5.14) and Peoria Chiefs (3-6, 5.45, 48 BB to 47 K in 69 1/3 IP). He was back with Colombia for the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers but did not appear in a game as they won a spot in the 2017 World Baseball Classic.
