Biographical Information[edit]

Julio Vivas has pitched in Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, USA, Colombia and Italy and for the Colombian national team.

Vivas was signed by Pittsburgh Pirates scouts Rene Gayo and Rodolfo Petit in 2011. [1] He was 1-4 with a 5.55 ERA for the 2011 VSL Pirates but improved to 4-0 with 3 saves and a 2.36 ERA for the 2012 DSL Pirates 2. He had a 5-2, 2.30 record for the team in '13. He split 2014 between the GCL Pirates (3-1, 2 Sv, 1.17 in 15 G; 1 BB to 25 K in 23 IP) and the Bristol Pirates (0 R in 3 2/3 IP). That winter, he was 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA in 16 games for the 2014-2015 Águilas del Zulia.

In 2015, he pitched for the Bradenton Marauders (1-1, 2 Sv, 2.59 in 15 G) and West Virginia Power (3-1, 3.00 in 25 G). He had a 5.40 ERA for Zulia in winter ball. In 2016, he pitched for both the West Virginia Power (3-0, 4.17 in 20 G) and West Virginia Black Bears (1 UER in 6 2/3 IP). That ended his time in the Pirates chain. He pitched in the winter for Zulia (2-0, 5.00 in 10 G) and the Navegantes del Magallanes (0 R in 1 1/3 IP), following a trade for Angel Aguilar. [2] He was 5-4 with a 3.58 ERA for the independent Normal CornBelters in 2017.

The right-hander's next stop was the Colombian League. [3] He allowed two runs (one earned) in five innings for the Vaqueros de Montería in the 2020 Caribbean Series; the team was the first Colombian entry in a Caribbean Series. He allowed four walks and two runs in one inning in the 2021 Caribbean Series, toiling for the Caimanes de Barranquilla.

That summer, he pitched for Italy's Parma club in the 2021 European Champions Cup. He lost to Sascha Koch and the Bonn Capitals but turned in two shutout innings in the title game win over Bonn. He fanned 15 in 13 innings over 3 appearances, leading the Cup in K by one ahead of Mike Bolsenbroek. Only Vicente Campos pitched in more games. [4] Returning to Venezuela that winter, he was 1-1 with a 3.63 ERA for the Bravos de Margarita. In 2022, he pitched for the Gary SouthShore RailCats (1-0, 3.27 in 18 G) and Lake Erie Crushers (2-7, 4.78 in 12 G).

Vivas was 1-2 with a 3.72 ERA in 19 games for Margarita in 2022-2023, then switched back to a Colombian team, the Vaqueros de Montería, for the 2023 Caribbean Series. He lost to Panama's Harold Araúz and Venezuela's Guillermo Moscoso. He tied Davis Romero, Matt Pobereyko and Jonathan Carbó for the Series lead in losses. He was then one of several Venezuelan natives on the Colombian team in the 2023 World Baseball Classic. He tied Jhon Romero for the team lead with three games pitched. He walked two and allowed one run and no hits in two innings. [5]
