[1] He was 2-4 with a 7.32 ERA and 2.10 WHIP for the DSL Athletics that summer then improved to 2-4, 3.02 with two saves and a 1.29 WHIP in a repeat stint with the team in '15. Going stateside in 2017, he was 1-0 with a 1.38 ERA and .84 WHIP for the Vermont Lake Monsters. He would have led the New York-Penn League in ERA had he qualified; instead, Denyi Reyes led at 1.45. He slumped to 5-12, 4.66 for the 2018 Beloit Snappers. He tied Juan Hillman for the most losses in the Midwest League. He lost the most games in the A's chain, one ahead of Eric Jokisch and Zack Erwin.

The right-hander allowed one hit, two walks and one run in 3 1/3 IP for the Caimanes de Barranquilla in the 2021 Caribbean Series. In the Americas Olympic Qualifier for the Tokyo Olympics, he made two appearances for Colombia. Against Venezuela, he relieved Randy Consuegra in the 5th of a scoreless game with two on and one out. Hernán Pérez hit into a two-run error by Jeter Downs then Ruiz recovered to retire Ali Castillo and Juniel Querecuto. In the 6th, he allowed a Robinson Chirinos single but then got Carlos Perez, Diego Rincones and Alexander Palma in order. Jasier Herrera succeeded him. His other game, he relieved Jaider Rocha with a 14-1 deficit in the 5th against Cuba and a 3-0 count on Yadir Drake. He got three straight strikes to save the at-bat. Erisbel Arruebarruena singled but Raico Santos flew into a double play. In the 6th, he allowed a single to Iván Prieto and a walk to Yordan Manduley. He got Roel Santos on a grounder then Yadir Mujica hit into a run-scoring fielder's choice. Ruiz struck out Rafael Viñales then Leonardo Castro took over. [2]
