Biographical Information[edit]

Alexander Palma won a minor league RBI title and has played for the Venezuelan national team.

Palma was signed by the New York Yankees in 2012; MLB.com rated him the #7 prospect in the international pool. [1] He had an okay debut with the DSL Yankees 2, hitting .287/.325/.371 with 10 assists in 33 games in right field. Coming stateside in '14, he batted .305/.318/.451 for the GCL Yankees 1 with 45 RBI in 52 games, drawing only 3 walks. He led the Gulf Coast League in RBI, 7 ahead of Carlos Muñoz and was 2nd in hits, behind Magneuris Sierra. He joined Sierra and Michael Pritchard as the GCL All-Star outfielders. [2]

In '15, he slumped to .202/.248/.256 with the Charleston RiverDogs but had 15 outfield assists in 77 games. He repeated with the team in '16 and improved his batting line to .265/.292/.420. He split 2017 between the Tampa Yankees (.277/.323/.428, 29 R in 47 G) and Charleston (.296/.321/.481, 6 R in 7 G). That winter, he hit .300/.328/.395 for the Leones del Caracas with 30 runs and 13 doubles in 47 games. He tied for 6th in the Venezuelan League in two-baggers. He won the LVBP Rookie of the Year. With Tampa in '18, he hit .299/.348/.459 in 52 games. He split 2019 between Tampa (.260/.313/.462 in 30 G), the Trenton Thunder (2 for 8, BB), GCL Yankees East (.382/.417/.559 in 10 G) and GCL Yankees West (9 for 17, 2B, 4 HR, 7 RBI in 5 G).

He was on Venezuela's squad for the 2019 Premier 12 but did not get into a game in the outfield. He did take over for Balbino Fuenmayor at DH early in a loss to Taiwan. He flew it and grounded out against Yi Chang then whiffed in the 8th against Kai-Wei Lin. [4]
