Biographical Information

Denyi Reyes reached the majors in 2022.

Reyes was signed by Boston Red Sox scouts Manny Nanita and Eddie Romero in July 2014. He made his debut with the 2015 DSL Red Sox 2, walking only three batters in 75 IP and posting a 7-1, 2.88 record. He tied for 6th in the Dominican Summer League in wins. He put up similar numbers with the 2016 GCL Red Sox (4-1, 2.34, 4 BB in 34 2/3 IP). In 17, he was 9-0 with a 1.45 ERA for the Lowell Spinners with 7 BB in 62 IP. Only 10-0 Tyler Bray had a better record in the minor leagues that year. He led the New York-Penn League lead in ERA, .49 ahead of Scooter Hightower.

He split 2018 between the Greenville Drive (10-3, 1.89, 13 BB in 123 2/3 IP; .85 WHIP) and the Salem Red Sox (2-2, 2.25 in 6 G). He led Red Sox farmhands in wins and ERA (1.97; Jhonathan Díaz was next at 3.09) and was third with 145 K (after Kutter Crawford and Díaz). He tied Damon Jones for third in the South Atlantic League in wins. Among all minor leaguers, he was 4th in ERA (behind David Parkinson, Michael King and Garrett Whitlock. He was named the SAL Most Outstanding Pitcher and All-Star RHSP.

Entering 2019, Baseball America rated him as Boston's #18 prospect and as having the best control in their system. He took a major step back, going 8-12 with a 4.16 ERA for the Portland Sea Dogs that year. Only Kyle Hart lost more games in the Red Sox chain and he was 4th in the Eastern League in that department. The 2020 minor league season was then wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic. He returned to the field that winter, doing very well (0.61 ERA, 0.55 WHIP) in four appearances for the Dominican League's Leones del Escogido.

The big right-hander opened 2021 sharper with Portland (now mostly in relief) then joined the Dominican national team for the Tokyo Olympics; in effect, he replaced a fellow Red Sox pitcher, Raynel Espinal, who had been with the team for the last Olympic qualifier.

Following the 2021 season, he signed as a free agent with the Baltimore Orioles. He began the 2022 season with the Delmarva Shorebirds of the Carolina League, but after one start was promoted to the AAA Norfolk Tides. After three starts there, he was promoted to the major league Orioles, making his debut on May 13th y pitching two scoreless and hitless innings in relief in a 4-2 loss to the Detroit Tigers.
