Hannibal, MO
Hannibal is located in northeastern Missouri, on the Mississippi river, across from the state of Iowa, 100 miles northwest of St. Louis, MO. It is best known as the hometown of writer Mark Twain, who set his best known book, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, in the small city, making its name synonymous with All-American values. It is therefore not a coincidence that it was chosen by Douglass Wallop as the fictional hometown of Joe Hardy, the slugging hero of Damn Yankees.
