Biographical Information[edit]

Second baseman Paul Tretiak spent eight seasons in the minor leagues, playing from 1947 to 1954.

In 3,027 at-bats, he hit only eight home runs and 91 doubles, while slugging .312 overall. He averaged one home run every 378 at-bats and didn't hit a single dinger from 1948 to 1950, during which time he had 1,216 ABs.

Perhaps his best season was 1948, when he hit .279 with 131 hits, 19 doubles, 7 triples and 164 total bases in 122 games for the Joplin Miners. Overall, he hit .251 in 811 games.

He managed the FIL Mets in 1968 and 1969. As well, he spent a year as assistant coach at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and spent time coaching and scouting in the Pittsburgh Pirates (1960-1963), New York Mets (1965-1977) and Milwaukee Brewers (1978- ) systems.

He served in the Army during World War II.
